Boise State’s football team experienced significant travel disruptions Friday while attempting to reach Eugene, Oregon, ahead of their Saturday game against No. 2 Oregon. The team’s flight was initially unable to land at Eugene Airport due to rainy weather and was diverted to Portland International Airport. Further weather issues in Portland prevented a subsequent flight, forcing the Broncos to travel by bus.
According to Flight Radar data, the team was originally scheduled to arrive in Eugene on Friday afternoon. After landing in Portland around 3 p.m. local time, they hoped to fly the remaining distance. However, with continued inclement weather, Boise State confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that the team would instead take a bus to Eugene.
As of 6 p.m. PT, the team had not yet departed on the approximately two-hour bus ride. The Broncos are not expected to arrive at their hotel until around 9 p.m. local time. This extended travel day presents a challenge as Boise State is scheduled to kick off against Oregon at 12:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.
This game marks Boise State’s first as a member of the rebranded Pac-12 conference. The Broncos hold a 3-1 all-time record against Oregon and are seeking their first win at Autzen Stadium since 2008.
