The second release candidate for XWayland 26.1 is now available, offering a range of fixes and improvements. This release is a significant update, being the first major version since XWayland 24.1 debuted in 2024.
XWayland 26.1 focuses on enhancing several key areas, including a better rootful implementation, multi-seat compatibility with X Input 2, and support for new Wayland protocols. Improvements have also been made to Resize and Rotate "RandR" emulation. Notably, the update drops support for EGLStream.
The XWayland 26.1 RC2 release includes multiple fixes for XKB, damage tracking improvements, and byte-swapping changes for X Input. These changes were contributed by three developers. Details and downloads for XWayland 26.1 RC2 are available via the xorg mailing list.
Alongside XWayland 26.1, X.Org Server 26.1 is also in development, representing an even larger update since the xorg-server 21.1 stable series.
