Amazon-owned IMDb is introducing a new professional category, “Digital Creator,” to its online directory of film and television professionals. This addition, available on both IMDb and IMDbPro, aims to provide internet content creators with a dedicated space to showcase their work and connect with industry contacts.
The new category includes sub-professions such as “Streamer,” “Vlogger,” “Video Essayist,” “Video Creator,” “Gaming Creator,” and “Influencer.” According to IMDb, the change gives internet content creators “a dedicated way to represent that work and connect with audiences, industry peers and potential employers.” Creators can list multiple professions on their profile, allowing those who also work in traditional film or television to represent the full scope of their careers in one place.
Notably, establishing a “Digital Creator” profile does not require any existing film or TV credits. The feature is currently available for IMDbPro Premium members. Nikki Santoro, CEO of IMDb, stated, “IMDbPro empowers entertainment professionals with tools that help them get discovered, build their reputation, and advance their careers… Digital creators and their representatives need that same infrastructure, and producers, casting directors, studio executives and brand partners need a reliable way to find them. We’re excited to add a category that bridges that gap and gives creators a discoverable industry profile.”
MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), the most-followed individual YouTube creator whose projects include the reality series “Beast Games” for Prime Video, already has a listing on the service. IMDb will celebrate the launch of Digital Creator profiles at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 14 with an invite-only industry cocktail party, which will also spotlight the company’s expanding collaboration with Canadian guilds. IMDb plans to continue expanding its professional categories based on industry feedback.
