Rangers captain Lawrence Shankland will miss the upcoming Glasgow Derby double header due to a hamstring injury sustained during Saturday’s game against Motherwell. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for up to two months.
The ex-Hearts attacker, who joined Rangers on a free transfer during the summer, was handed the armband by Derek McInnes. Shankland scored the opener in a previous match against Celtic, but his team ultimately lost 2-1, with Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand securing the victory for Martin O'Neill's side. Arne Engels also scored a penalty in that game.
The double header sees Celtic travel to Ibrox on Sunday for the Premier Sports Cup Quarter Final, followed by another match the following week at Celtic Park. Shankland’s absence is considered a blow for Rangers, while it provides a boost for Celtic, given the striker was beginning to find form.
