Newcastle commentator Matthew Raisbeck expressed concerns about the club's recent summer and anticipates a difficult season ahead. Raisbeck, speaking on BBC Radio Newcastle, cited ongoing changes within the club as a source of anxiety for fans.
Raisbeck described the summer as “challenging,” noting a pattern of instability at St James’ Park in recent years. He pointed to the current managerial change and player departures, as well as previous issues like the transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak and changes in club leadership, including Amanda Staveley’s departure and the appointment of a new sporting director.
“It's been a challenging summer because it always is,” Raisbeck said. “No matter who owns the club, there is always something over the past few years…This year, managerial change and players leaving. Last year, the Isak saga. The year before that, they had Elliot Anderson going, Amanda Staveley left, a new sporting director. It always feels like the summer is difficult for Newcastle United.”
Raisbeck also conveyed a sense of relentless pressure surrounding the club, stating that the period between seasons feels short and is quickly filled with “Newcastle United anguish and anxiety.” He concluded by stating, “Could be a long year ahead.” Raisbeck co-commentates Newcastle United games on BBC Radio Newcastle with John Anderson.
