Jérôme Pierrat’s fiction feature directorial debut, *Moolah* (La Moula), will premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on Wednesday, September 9, in the Horizons section. The 82-minute crime drama stars Pierrat and features Kader Benchoudar, Jean Ruimi, Jean-Michel Correia, Thierry Coignard, Patrice Kouyoumdjian, Jean-Mathieu Frattaci, Fethi Makdoudi, Michel Ucciani and Jacques Sordi.
The film centers on Jérôme, a struggling organized crime reporter, who sees an opportunity to reboot his career “thanks to Charlie, a cocaine trafficker, and his gangster associates.” The synopsis states that while waiting for a drug shipment near Marseille, the group is put in danger by the possible presence of a police officer. *Moolah* explores drug trafficking in the port of Marseille, drawing from Pierrat’s real-life experiences as a journalist investigating organized crime in France.
Iconoclast Films, Shotinmars, and Fatalitas Productions are the production companies behind the film, with Iconoclast Films handling world sales. *The Hollywood Reporter* has released two exclusive clips from the movie, offering a preview of its style and atmosphere. One clip features Pierrat speaking directly to the camera while witnessing “something… well, unbelievable.” The second clip shows Pierrat and a shaky camera, with dialogue referencing footage he has collected.
