The New York Giants took the lead against the New York Jets in their preseason finale Friday night at MetLife Stadium. Several players are vying for roster spots ahead of Saturday’s 6 p.m. deadline to trim rosters to 53 players.
Trace Ford sacked Cade Klubnik, pushing the Jets out of field goal range. Odell Beckham Jr. made a catch, though it was slightly late. Tyrone Tracy Jr. sustained an injury during an 8-yard run and was checked by teammates before leaving the field. Najee Harris and Darius Slayton also saw playing time.
Zaire Barnes, a former Jet, intercepted Cade Klubnik, halting a promising drive. The Giants then drove down the field with runs from Tyrone Tracy Jr. and a long catch by Odell Beckham Jr., culminating in a touchdown and successful extra point by Dominic Zvada. Sisi Mauigoa is the only starting lineman still in the game, while the Giants’ backup cornerbacks are rotating.
Braxton Berrios had the ball punched out while attempting to gain yards after a catch. Najee Harris performed well, “running like a former 1st rounder.” There is speculation about whether Ben Sauls or Dominic Zvada could join the Jets. Beckham slipped, leading to a tipped pass and an interception. Jaxson Dart will not play in the game, and other starters will also be held out until the September 13th season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
