New York Jets rookie running back Chip Trayanum was taken to a hospital after sustaining a neck injury during a preseason game against the Giants on Friday night.
Trayanum, an undrafted rookie from Toledo, was injured on the final play of the first half after being tackled by Trace Ford. The Jets announced that Trayanum was awake, alert, and had movement in all of his extremities.
According to the Associated Press, the Jets had possession with 10 seconds remaining before halftime but chose to run a play instead of having quarterback Cade Klubnik take a knee. Trayanum received the handoff from Klubnik and was immediately hit. Trainers and doctors immediately attended to Trayanum on the field, and he was eventually placed on a backboard and transported off the field. He was seen flexing both of his hands as he was being driven away.
Trayanum scored the Jets’ only touchdown of the first half with a 1-yard run, capping a 10-play opening drive where he carried the ball nine times. He finished the game with 38 yards on 12 plays.
