Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International have entered into a global distribution agreement, beginning with “Pokémon the Series: The Beginning” on Disney XD and Disney+. A new stop-motion animated series, “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,” is slated for release in 2027.
The deal was announced during a panel at Pokémon XP on Friday. “Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,” featuring Ash and Pikachu, is currently streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets after premiering on Disney XD earlier this month.
The upcoming stop-motion series, “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,” is being produced by Aardman animation studio. The series follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu on a journey through the Galar Region, where they aim to help and protect Pokémon, though their missions often go awry. According to the series description, their adventures will include “peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs.”

Phil Rynda, Pokémon’s director of original animation, added, “These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman. Audiences will be delighted getting to know the Sirfetch’d & Pichu, and wonderful cast of Pokémon, featured in this series. Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes.” The Aardman team includes director Tom Parkinson, creative director of IP development Nat McKay, and model making creative lead James Young.
