Actor Owen Thiele discusses the second season of the FX comedy “Adults,” his role as Anton, and his other upcoming projects, including work with Connor Storrie and Dua Lipa. He also addresses being a “nepo grandchild.”
Thiele expressed relief that “Adults” received a second season, noting the cast’s initial worries about renewal. He believes the show has cultivated “a little, tiny, beautiful cult following” that will support it. Thiele hosted an Instagram-sponsored dinner in New York with guests including Bowen Yang, Molly Gordon, and Mary Beth Barone to celebrate the new season, also spotlighting Instants, a new feature for sending photos through DMs.
In addition to “Adults,” Thiele appears in Prime Video’s “Overcompensating” as George, portraying a different kind of queer friendship than his character Anton. He is also set to star alongside Connor Storrie and Dua Lipa in Molly Gordon’s upcoming comedy “Peaked.” Thiele is currently writing “Off Color,” a semi-autobiographical Amazon comedy inspired by his experience growing up Black and gay in a white Jewish family. Susie Essman will play his mother in the series.
Regarding Season 2 of “Adults,” Thiele said, “A lot happened. A lot happened.” He highlighted that the season addresses a kiss between his character and Paul “in a way that I think people wouldn’t expect,” describing it as having “avoidant-attachment vibes.” He acknowledges drawing heavily from his own life for the character, stating, “A lot of people would say I can’t act because of that.” Thiele added that the writers crafted a season full of “twists and turns,” leaving him surprised while filming. He also mentioned that his father is Bob Thiele Jr. and his grandfather was iconic record producer Bob Thiele, who co-wrote “What a Wonderful World.”
