Bon Appétit has published a recipe for a “Midnight Margarita” cocktail inspired by a scene in the 1998 film *Practical Magic*. The drink’s deep purple color comes from blackberries, and coconut water adds sweetness and a refreshing quality. Fans of the film often begin watching it at 11:12 p.m. so a cocktail scene occurs at midnight.
The recipe calls for freezing coconut water into ice cubes. To prepare the glass, a lime half is rubbed around the rim, which is then dipped in flaky sea salt. Five blackberries are muddled in the glass. The margarita is made by blending the frozen coconut water ice cubes with 2½ oz. lime juice, 2 oz. tequila blanco, 1 oz. orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or triple sec), and ½ tsp. sugar.
For a drink served on the rocks, the recipe suggests garnishing with a torched rosemary sprig. The blended version requires 2 oz. coconut water in addition to the other ingredients, and the cocktail is shaken with ice before being strained into the blackberry-filled glass. Any remaining lime juice can be stored for up to three days.
