Barnet manager Dean Brennan highlighted the strength of his squad following a 2-1 win over Accrington on Saturday. The victory came after a competitive training session and despite conceding a late equalizer in a previous match.
Brennan stated his players responded positively after drawing 3-3 with Chesterfield, where they “should have won it by two clear goals.” Instead of becoming discouraged, players who hadn’t been regularly featured impressed in a training match. “We could have sulked but I watched the players train on Tuesday,” Brennan told BBC Radio London. “We played an 11-a-side game and I said to them 'you've got to play like this is your last game at Barnet'. The lads that hadn't been playing won 5-2 against the first team and it was a fantastic game.”
Initially, Brennan intended to keep the same starting lineup from the Chesterfield match, believing they had performed well. However, he made a tactical adjustment at halftime against Accrington after falling behind 1-0, substituting Nnamdi Ofoborh and repositioning Damola Ajayi to add width to the attack. Two goals from Charlie Lakin secured the win. Brennan praised Lakin as a “sensational” signing.
Brennan concluded by stating, “This is the strongest group of players I've ever had.”
