The new series, a sequel to “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” will premiere on Paramount+ with three episodes on October 9, followed by weekly releases. The story centers on Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar and is hunted by enemies who see her as a destroyer rather than a savior.
The first season, referred to as “Book 1” in “Avatar” terminology, will debut with three episodes on October 9. Paramount+ will then release three more episodes each Friday through October 30. A 13-episode “Book 2” has already been greenlit, with a premiere date to be announced later.
The series follows Pavi, voiced by Saheli Khan, a young Earthbender who becomes the new Avatar after Korra. She and her twin sister, Nisha, voiced by Aishu Devan, must uncover their origins and attempt to save the Seven Havens as civilization’s last strongholds face collapse. The voice cast also includes Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.
Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who also serve as executive producers via Avatar Studios, “Avatar: Seven Havens” was originally scheduled to premiere on the same date as the film “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,” before the film’s release was moved to July 25 following an online leak. Konietzko explained to Variety that the series deliberately incorporates South Asian influences, noting that “The concept and even the word ‘avatar’ all come from Indian culture and tradition and Sanskrit,” and that they aimed to better represent this inspiration in “Seven Havens” by coding Pavi as a South Asian-inspired character.
