Village People Frontman Victor Willis Dies at Age 74

Victor Willis, the lead singer and a founding member of the Village People, has died at the age of 74. The band confirmed his death on Wednesday.

Willis was known as the frontman for the group and co-wrote many of their hit songs, including “YMCA.” According to multiple reports, he passed away after a "short, aggressive illness."

The Village People announced Willis’s passing with a statement, reading: “We are profoundly sad to announce the death of VICTOR WILLIS, lead singer of Village P…”.

Willis was one of the founding members of the band, and provided vocals for their signature song, YMCA. Sky News reported that he also co-wrote the hit song.

The New York Post initially reported Willis died after battling a “short, aggressive illness.” The Daily Mail similarly stated he died following a "short but aggressive illness".

No further details regarding his death have been released at this time.
