Woody Norman, Malachi Kirby, Tuppence Middleton, Conrad Khan, and Kola Bokinni are set to star in the British urban horror thriller “Skag & Bone.” The film blends crime thriller elements with supernatural horror, described by producers as “Top Boy” meets “Talk to Me.”
UTA Independent Film Group will package the film and arrange financing, also representing North American rights. Conor Boru will direct, co-writing the screenplay with Ed Hartland, marking their second feature collaboration after Boru’s “When the Screaming Starts.” Julien Loeffler and James Kermack of Featuristic Films will produce.
The film centers on Younger, a 16-year-old played by Woody Norman, who is rehoused with his mother, Maria (Tuppence Middleton), on the Stonemore Estate. After Maria suffers a debilitating stroke and is unable to work, Younger must provide for and protect them both. He navigates the estate alongside his cousin Caleb (Conrad Khan) and becomes involved with local drug lord Anton (Kola Bokinni), who offers protection and a potential escape.
An enigmatic local preacher (Malachi Kirby) presents an alternative path, but as a gang war escalates, residents begin disappearing. An entity known as the Skag & Bone Man stalks the tower blocks, preying on the fear and secrets of the inhabitants. Younger must fight to save his mother and escape the estate, trapped between criminal forces and a supernatural evil. Norman previously received BAFTA and Critics Choice Award nominations for his performance in “C’mon C’mon.” Kirby won a BAFTA Television Award for his role in “Small Axe: Mangrove.” Middleton is known for her work in the “Downton Abbey” franchise and Netflix’s “Sense8.” Khan earned BAFTA and British Independent Film Award nominations for his breakout role in “County.”
