Sherri Shepherd stars in “Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story,” a Lifetime film premiering September 12th that recounts the true story of 9/11 survivor Genelle Guzman. The film details Guzman’s 27-hour ordeal trapped beneath the North Tower of the World Trade Center after its collapse, ultimately becoming the final survivor recovered from Ground Zero.
The made-for-TV movie is executive produced by Shepherd, alongside Robin Roberts, Linda Berman and Anne Carlucci. It is based on Guzman (now Guzman-McMillan’s) 2011 memoir of the same name, *Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor*, with an audiobook version also available.
According to a Lifetime description, the film recounts how Guzman, while trapped, reflected on her life and prayed for deliverance, promising change if rescued. She believed a man named Paul, who remained by her side until rescuers arrived, was an angel sent to save her. When she later searched for Paul to thank him, no one could confirm his presence.
Viewers can watch “Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story” live on Lifetime this Saturday, September 12th, at 8 p.m. The network will rebroadcast the film throughout the weekend. Those without cable can stream the film live through Sling, with packages starting at $45.99/month, or via a 1-Day Pass for $4.99. The film will also be available on-demand at mylifetime.com the day after its premiere. This role marks one of Shepherd’s first major projects since her talk show ended this summer.
