Actor Andrew Scott is now considered a frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar following the premiere of “Elsinore” at the Telluride Film Festival. While Malkovich may have an advantage due to his age (73 versus Scott’s 49) and the expected broader category nominations for his film, Scott’s performance is seen as potentially overshadowing other aspects of “Elsinore,” which has been described as solid but not spectacular.
Potential Oscar nominations for “Elsinore” beyond Scott’s performance include Olivia Colman for Best Supporting Actress (playing Charleson’s doctor), Stephen Beresford for Best Original Screenplay (inspired by “an idea” from another source), Valerio Bonelli for film editing, Stefan Gregory for original score, and even a Best Picture nomination.
