Andrea Pallaoro’s drama, “The Echo Chamber,” starring Alicia Vikander, Luca Marinelli, and Susan Sarandon, has secured international distribution deals ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Paradise City Sales is handling the sales, with distribution agreements already in place for several territories.
The film will be released in Spain by Vertice360, Australia and New Zealand by Umbrella, Poland by Gutek, and the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania by Aero Films. Further distribution deals have been made for former Yugoslavia and Bulgaria with MCF Megacom, and Taiwan with AV Jet. Paradise City Sales is also managing North American sales alongside UTA Independent Film Group. In Italy, 01 Distribution will release the film, while O’Brother will handle distribution in Benelux.
“The Echo Chamber” centers on the relationship between Leo and Anne, exploring themes of attraction, separation, intimacy, dependence, care, control, presence, and absence. The story is enhanced by the presence of Ava and her voice, which reveals buried emotions and memories. The film’s screenplay has autobiographical connections to the work of the late Bernardo Bertolucci, originating from a story co-written by Bertolucci, Ilaria Bernardini, and Ludovica Rampoldi, and later developed by Pallaoro with Bernardini and Rampoldi after Bertolucci’s death.
The film features musical performances by Sarandon, Marinelli, and Vikander, and includes licensed tracks from artists such as Jamie xx, Marianne Faithfull, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, and Imagine Dragons. Pallaoro has previously presented films at the Venice Film Festival, including “Medeas,” “Hannah,” and “Monica,” with “Monica” earning Charlotte Rampling the Volpi Cup for best actress. The film is produced by Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima, Carlotta Calori, and Viola Prestieri for Indigo Film, Paolo Del Brocco for Rai Cinema, and Jacques-Henri Bronckart and Tatjana Kozar for Versus Production.
