Spanish indie studio Impulse Cinema and Italian production/distribution company Fandango have formed a strategic partnership to bolster co-production, financing, distribution, and global sales opportunities for Spanish and Italian films. The agreement, announced Saturday at the Venice Production Bridge during the Venice Film Festival, aims to strengthen European independent cinema through collaborative models.
Impulse Cinema, headed by Andrés Sánchez Pajares and Roberto Butragueño, is Spain’s first large-scale integrated indie studio, operating across the entire film value chain. The Madrid-based company has received €8 million ($9.3 million) in funding through the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) under the NextGenerationEU program. Impulse provides financing, co-production, distribution, international sales services, and access to production infrastructure including image processing, sound post-production, visual effects, and soundstages.
Domenico Procacci’s Fandango, established in 1989, is a leading Italian indie film production and distribution company with over 100 films to its credit. Fandango currently has five titles at the Venice Film Festival, including Nanni Moretti’s “It Happened One Night” and Marco Bechis’ “Back to Buenos Aires,” both in competition.
The partnership will encompass international distribution of both Italian and international films, with Impulse participating as a partner alongside Fandango Sales on global sales. Domenico Procacci, founder and chief of Fandango, stated, “Today, more than ever, European independent cinema needs new collaborative models to help ambitious projects grow and reach wider international audiences. By combining our respective expertise and investment capacity, we can offer independent producers stronger support while allowing them to develop their projects with greater autonomy.” He added, “This collaboration will create new opportunities for the projects in which Fandango is involved, helping outstanding films fulfil both their artistic ambitions and commercial potential.”
