The indie dystopian film “Littermates,” starring Joey Bader, Kaylee McGregor, Oliver Woolf and Jack Redmayne, will have a theatrical release at over 30 Alamo Drafthouse locations beginning November 6. The film, directed by Scott Tinkham and Michael Woloson, will also screen at Fantastic Fest on September 20.
The comic dystopian feature was produced in just 15 days. The story follows Liam and Mel, two disoriented survivors who find refuge with a caretaker named Chester, who rewards good behavior with “nifties” – tokens redeemable for comforts like karaoke and hot tub time. As their makeshift family dynamic shifts, fear and loyalty come to the forefront against a backdrop of war.
Tinkham and Woloson stated, “We made ‘Littermates’ to explore the strange, primal and often trivial relationship between siblings. At its heart, the film is an unconventional coming-of-age story set against a dystopian backdrop.” They added that they envisioned the film as a communal experience, making the Alamo Exclusives release and Fantastic Fest screening ideal.
Michael Kustermann, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, described “Littermates” as “funny, audacious, visually confident and nearly impossible to fit inside a conventional box.” Lisa Dreyer, director of Fantastic Fest and film innovation, noted that the film emerged from “scrappy edges” where limitations can become a unique perspective, calling it “funny, unnerving, formally exacting and completely con”.
“Littermates” is the second film released through Alamo Exclusives, following the documentary “Butthole Surfers: The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt.” The film was produced by That’s The Fish, with Haley Nicole Johnson serving as executive producer. Scott Tinkham wrote the script, and the film’s original score was composed by Noa Margalit. Woloson also served as cinematographer and editor, alongside producers Woolf, Woloson, Tinkham and McGregor.
