The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an end to the hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius. The WHO’s Director General stated that no further cases have been reported since May 25th.
The organization announced on Thursday that the final contact of a person exposed to the virus completed their quarantine period on July 2nd, according to reports. The outbreak initially sparked international alarm.
According to the Washington Examiner, the WHO declared the hantavirus outbreak over after 60 days. A statement from the WHO noted, “Today, the final contact of a person exposed to hantavirus on the cruise ship MV Hondius completed their quarantine.”
The South China Morning Post reported that there were 12 confirmed cases of the deadly virus aboard the ship. The Straits Times also reported the completion of the final quarantine period on July 2nd.
