Two Romanian men have been sentenced to prison terms following a knife attack on an Iranian journalist in Wimbledon, London, in 2024. Prosecutors stated the attack was carried out on behalf of the Iranian government.
Nandito Badea, 21, and George Stana, 25, were given 12 and eight-year sentences respectively, according to reports from multiple news outlets. The incident involved the stabbing of Pouria Zeraati, a journalist working for Iran International television.
The judge presiding over the case indicated that evidence suggested the attack was “targeted” and conducted at the direction of Tehran, as reported by The Guardian. Financial Times noted that Zeraati is an opposition-supporting journalist. GB News specified that Zeraati was stabbed three times near his London home.
According to BBC US, the two men were convicted for the knife attack. Straits Times reports that British prosecutors argued the pair acted as proxies for the Iranian government.
