Sony has reintroduced the WH-1000XM4 headphones, originally discontinued in 2025, as the WH-1000XM4C. The headphones feature a familiar design, including a compact, foldable form factor that Sony moved away from in subsequent models like the XM5 and XM6.
The XM4C retain the original’s QN1 processing chip and four microphones for active noise cancellation (ANC), though newer models have increased microphone counts and updated chips. Sony has updated the sound profile and added a 10-band EQ (compared to the original’s 5-band EQ) and a gaming preset via the Headphones app. The new headphones also support Bluetooth 6.
Battery life is slightly reduced to up to 27 hours with ANC enabled, down from the original XM4’s 30 hours. The WH-1000XM4C will be available this fall for $300, which is $50 less than the original XM4’s launch price and $100 less than the current XM6.
Alongside the XM4C, Sony also released updated versions of its more affordable headphone lines: the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530. Both new models receive the 10-band EQ and gaming preset, and the CH730N now features a foldable design. Battery life is boosted to up to 50 hours with ANC for the CH730N and 55 hours for the CH530, which does not have ANC. A new safe mode in the app allows users to limit maximum volume output.
