Jon Rahm has stated he is accustomed to “turbulence” as the future of LIV Golf remains unclear following the withdrawal of funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Rahm, currently competing in the Irish Open, acknowledged the situation but remained tight-lipped about his future plans.
Rahm told BBC Sport NI’s Stephen Watson, “Yes and no, it hasn't really changed from my last interview in Indianapolis a few weeks ago,” adding, “There's a lot of things in place, right? There's a lot of things that could happen and it's one of those things where time's gonna tell.” LIV Golf recently announced it was “scaling back operations” and laid off some employees in early September.
The golfer, who joined LIV this year, expressed his ability to handle instability. “To be fair for us people that joined LIV, I'm pretty good at dealing with turbulence, so not really, not at this point,” Rahm said. His teammate, Tyrrell Hatton, anticipates the tour will continue next year despite the recent changes. While some LIV players, including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed, have returned to the PGA Tour, Rahm responded to questions about a potential return with, “we'll see what happens.”
Rahm is competing in the Irish Open for the first time since 2019, seeking his third title at the event after previous wins in 2017 and 2019. He won twice during the 2026 LIV season, securing his third consecutive season-long individual title, and finished tied second at the USPGA Championship in May. Despite windy and wet conditions at the Irish Open, Rahm is focused on preparation. “It truly doesn't matter [how my game feels right now],” he laughed. “I think it was the second Irish Open that my game felt terrible leading into it and for the first two days and then somehow ended up winning.” He will also compete in the BMW PGA Championship next week.
