Construction is underway on the Novant Health Performance Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, which will serve as the Charlotte Hornets’ new practice facility and team offices. The project is a collaboration between Novant Health and Hornets Sports & Entertainment, intended to provide world-class facilities for the team and a community health resource.
The 100,000-square-foot facility will include practice courts and training/recovery areas for the Hornets, along with 35,000 square feet of team offices. Dr. Sid Fletcher, Novant Health’s senior vice president and president of employer solutions, stated, “This project I could not be more excited about. You're about to see what happens when the vision comes to life.”
Beyond athletic training, the center’s ground floor will house an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic open to the public, as well as retail space and a plaza. Shelly Cayette-Weston, the president of business operations at Hornets Sports & Entertainment, explained the need for the facility: “We want to build a premier NBA and entertainment franchise, and to do that, we need world-class facilities.” Fletcher added that the partnership between Novant Health and the Hornets, lasting over 25 years, is “coming to fruition” with this project.
Leaders view the facility as an investment in both the team and the Charlotte region, citing the city’s rapid growth and momentum. Cayette-Weston noted, “Charlotte is a great, fast-growing city, and there's so much momentum going on that impacts counties throughout this region. This facility is another sign of that.” The Novant Health Performance Center is expected to open next spring and will be located directly across from the Spectrum Center.
