Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was deported to the United Kingdom on Friday after being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his visa. Yiannopoulos, a British citizen, initially entered the U.S. legally in May 2019 but remained beyond the permitted timeframe, leading to a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge on July 22 after he failed to appear for a hearing. He was arrested at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the deportation, stating that the action reversed a “Biden-era policy” allowing undocumented individuals to travel domestically and that the administration “will no longer tolerate” such activity. DHS also highlighted a program offering $3,000 and a free flight to individuals willing to “self-deport” and return to the U.S. legally in the future. Reports indicated Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans prior to his arrest, ahead of a concert by the artist formerly known as Kanye West, for whom Yiannopoulos has previously worked.
Yiannopoulos has a history of provocative statements and has been banned from social media platforms for hateful attacks. He has previously advocated for stricter immigration enforcement, including on-the-spot deportation for those unable to prove legal residency. In 2025, he called for ICE checkpoints at various locations and the deportation of millions. Laura Loomer, a far-right commentator, claimed credit for prompting the ICE investigation, alleging she contacted authorities in 2024 and 2025 regarding Yiannopoulos’s visa status and alleged support for Hamas.
DHS indicated that Yiannopoulos may be permanently barred from returning to the United States if he did not utilize the voluntary departure program. The agency stated that those arrested and deported will have no opportunity to return. Yiannopoulos previously worked for Breitbart News, leaving the organization in 2017.
