Macey Hudson, a junior volleyball player at Emmanuel Christian, was named the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week after a standout performance against Northeastern on August 22.
In the match against Northeastern, Hudson recorded 27 kills and 25 digs in a four-set victory for the Lions. She earned the honor, presented by Orthopaedic Institute of Dayton, through reader voting at DaytonDailyNews.com. “I have had people from our school get nominated and I thought it was really cool, and to have myself get nominated for it was just really an honor,” Hudson said.
During the Northeastern match, Hudson also reached 500 career kills and earlier this season surpassed 100 career blocks. Last season, she led the Metro Buckeye Conference in both kills and blocks, helping the Lions become co-champions. Hudson expressed her enjoyment of blocking, stating, “It's a really hard skill to master, but it's super fun when it works out for you.”
Despite a busy schedule that includes overnight team outings, Hudson remains focused on her performance. She described the recent match against Northeastern as exciting and fun, noting the team had just finished its first week of games. Hudson finds volleyball to be a competitive outlet, enjoying the fast-paced gameplay and the unique challenges each point presents. She hopes to continue playing volleyball in college and is focused on helping her team win another conference title. “I'm trying to help the team, and the team as a whole we're trying to win conference again,” she said. “And then I just want to be consistent for my team through every match, every game, no matter the opponent.”
