Singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus will perform at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night, marking the end of her ‘Forever Is a Feeling’ album cycle. The show will feature arrangements by violinist Phoenix Ruziamani and accompaniment by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Dacus intends to take a break from performing after the concert to experience ‘not doing anything’ for a period of time.
Dacus, 31, explained to *The Hollywood Reporter* that she uses rituals to mark milestones, stating, “I’ve found that if I don’t have some degree of ritual or marking of milestones, I get really sad…I make plans trying to be respectful of beginnings and endings.” She is currently preparing for a performance at the Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle, but her focus remains on the Hollywood Bowl show.
The concert will differ from previous performances on the tour due to the orchestral arrangements. Dacus and Ruziamani collaborated to select songs from her discography that would best suit the orchestra. “Kissing Lessons,” a song not regularly performed, was chosen despite being “not even on a record” and initially seeming unsuitable for orchestral accompaniment. Dacus also included songs based on requests from friends and family who will be in attendance, wanting to perform them “for the last time.”
Reflecting on performing these songs, Dacus described a feeling akin to re-watching a favorite movie and noticing new details. “The words are the same, the chords are the same,” she said, “But especially when there’s people in the audience that know my life and the core of the song, it can make me really remember where it came from and how far I am from that point.” She added that revisiting her discography has been inspiring, revealing “lessons you’ve more or less completed, or lessons that you’re still needing to learn or relearn.”
