Chris Rock revealed that director Paul Thomas Anderson provided feedback on his upcoming film, *Misty Green*, offering “a tweak here or there.” The film, starring Rosalind Eleazar and Topher Grace, explores the comeback attempt of a faded actress and was inspired by Rock’s experience with a former A-list actress working as a loop group performer.
During the Toronto International Film Festival premiere on Saturday, Rock shared that Anderson watched *Misty Green* both as a friend and as a critic. “Both,” Rock said to *The Hollywood Reporter*, “But it’s always for notes. It’s like, what do I have you, what’s the use of having a friend like you who can’t help me?” Rock did not specify what changes Anderson suggested or where in the film they appear.
*Misty Green* follows Rosalind Eleazar as Misty, an award-winning actress attempting to revive her career after reconnecting with her former talent agent, played by Topher Grace. Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Rock himself also appear in the comedy-drama.
The idea for the film originated when Rock observed a former A-list actress working in a “loop group”, a group of voice actors providing supplementary sound effects for film and television. “I was editing a movie, or something, and I was doing a loop group,” Rock explained. “You’re almost done with the movie, right? And you need extra sound effects, you ask for a loop group. In the loop group was a formerly famous actress. I was like, ‘Wow, what is she doing here?’ Because you don’t really get paid for loop group.” Rock declined to reveal the actress’s identity, but said, “something about watching her sparked the initial.”
*Misty Green* is scheduled for theatrical release on Oct. 9, distributed by A24.
