Actor Larenz Tate is joining the team behind Vault, a new streaming and distribution platform designed to empower independent filmmakers. The platform, already live, aims to give creators greater control over their work and connect them with global audiences.
Tate has partnered with Kenneth Gifford, founder of the Newark International Film Festival, and his brothers Larron and Lahmard Tate for the project. According to a press release, their collective mission is to “connect creators with global audiences” by providing a platform that offers “greater access, control and ownership in an evolving entertainment landscape.”
Vault hosts independent film, television, documentaries, short-form content, and music. It offers both free access to viewers and a subscription model for a curated experience. The platform has already garnered over 50,000 subscribers. Filmmakers can host content at no cost, choosing whether to make it available for free or behind a paywall, and retain control over pricing and revenue. They also have access to marketing tools, including customizable landing pages and shareable content.
“The entertainment industry continues to evolve, but too often filmmakers and creatives are left with limited control over how their work is distributed, monetized and ultimately seen,” Larenz Tate said in a statement. “With VAULT, we have an opportunity to shift that dynamic — putting more power back into the hands of creators while giving their stories the ability to reach audiences around the world. It’s about ownership, access and creating a platform where great work can find its audience.”
This venture expands the work of Tate and his brothers through their company, TateMen Entertainment. They previously collaborated with AMC Global Networks, ALLBLK, and Starz on programs for emerging filmmakers and launched creative initiatives in Chicago.
