Peter Berg is directing the opening segments for all four of Netflix’s NFL gameday livestreams this season, with the first featuring narration by Kyle Chandler. The initial teaser will debut ahead of the Los Angeles Rams versus San Francisco 49ers game on September 10th.
Berg, who directed the 2004 film *Friday Night Lights* and the television series adaptation, has enlisted Chandler, who portrayed Coach Taylor in the series, for the project. The first of these NFL pregame teasers, titled “For the Love of Football,” will premiere during Netflix’s broadcast from Melbourne, Australia, beginning at 3:30 p.m. PT. It will intercut scenes of youth football teams and coaches with footage from NFL games, evoking the style of *Friday Night Lights*.
In the two-minute clip, Chandler states, “And so it begins. Right here, right now. Today. You are going to win. You’ll use your eyes to win. Your eyes will show you the truth. You’ll recognize it whether you like it or not.” He continues with, “You’ll play with your eyes clear and your heart full. If you can do that and then do it again and again, I assure you, you cannot lose… Clear eyes, full hearts. Can’t lose.”
Berg is also directing openers for the Green Bay Packers vs. Rams game on Thanksgiving Eve, the Packers vs. Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills vs. Denver Broncos on Christmas Day, and a Week 18 game on January 9, 2027, with the teams to be announced. Beyond the NFL teasers, Berg also directed, wrote, and produced the film *The Mosquito Bowl*, based on the novel by Buzz Bissinger, which will have a theatrical release on October 30th before streaming on Netflix on November 25th. The film details the story of four college football players who enlisted in the Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
