KDE Plasma 6.8, slated for release on October 14th, will include performance improvements for remote desktop connections using KRDP. Developer David Edmundson implemented a change to drop incoming frames when the encoder outpaces the client, described as “keeps latency very fast.”
Alongside the remote desktop enhancements, Plasma 6.8 will also feature improvements to the Input Method widget, enhancing the experience of switching between on-screen keyboard visibility roles and manual keyboard display in XWayland applications. Clipboard settings concerning copied image data and MIME actions have been made more comprehensible.
Further changes include Wayland commit-timing protocol support for KWin, a fix to prevent crashes when querying wallpaper settings via D-Bus, and a resolution to an issue where invalid configuration files in /etc/xdg/Xwayland-session.d/ would prevent KWin from launching. Beta 2 of Plasma 6.8 is scheduled for release on September 24th. The release of Plasma 6.8.0 will coincide with the 30th anniversary of KDE’s inception.
