Intel released version 1.38 of its Linux NPU Driver, officially supporting Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. The driver, designed for Intel’s Core Ultra Neural Processing Unit (NPU), has been tested on Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake, Panther Lake, and Wildcat Lake processors running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with the Linux 7.0 kernel.
The new release primarily focuses on formally recognizing support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, despite the NPU stack already functioning on the operating system. This official support arrives five months after the initial release of Ubuntu 26.04 and just before the upcoming 26.10 release. Intel has confirmed the user-space NPU driver is working properly on the platform.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS remains an officially supported operating system for the Intel NPU driver. The Intel Linux NPU Driver 1.38 is available for download on GitHub, with the sole change being the addition of official Ubuntu 26.04 LTS support.
