Jay-Z continued a series of performances featuring guest artists, bringing Justin Timberlake onstage in Paris on Thursday. The concert included a performance of “Holy Grail” and “Until the End of Time,” and a mini-reunion of the Fugees in London. The shows have also spotlighted other artists and celebrated personal milestones.
During the Paris concert, Jay-Z performed “Holy Grail,” a collaboration from his 2013 album “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” with Justin Timberlake. He also performed “Until the End of Time,” originally a duet between Timberlake and Beyonce. Last week in London, Jay-Z brought out Lauryn Hill and Wyclef for a performance of Fugees hits including “Ready or Not,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “Fu-Gee-La.”
The Paris show was introduced by Idris Elba, intoning his intro to Jay-Z’s 2007 “American Gangster” album. South London rapper Giggs also took the stage after being acknowledged by Jay-Z. Jay-Z also highlighted his wife, Beyonce, in the stadium as it was her birthday, coinciding with the 20th anniversary edition release of her 2006 album “Bday” on Friday. Beyonce did not perform with Jay-Z.
On the second night of the Paris concerts, British rapper Dave and musician Sampha joined Jay-Z onstage. This follows a July run of three concerts at Yankee Stadium which featured 19 guest artists, including Beyonce, Blue Ivy, Rihanna, Eminem, Nas, Alicia Keys, Pharrell, Usher, Swizz Beatz, and Teyana Taylor. Jay-Z is scheduled to perform again in Paris on September 10, and at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24. He previously performed at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia earlier this year, bringing out artists including Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, Jazmine Sullivan, Bilal and Young Gunz.
