Javier Bardem will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival. The Oscar-winning actor will present a screening of Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The Beloved” as part of the festival’s best of the fests section.
The Rome Film Festival will present the award to Bardem via Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino (“The Great Beauty”). Salvatore Nastasi, president of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, announced the prize in a statement, with Paola Malanga serving as artistic director.
Bardem recently appeared in Florian Zeller’s “Bunker” alongside his wife, Penelope Cruz, where they play a couple whose marriage unravels. He will also appear in the upcoming “Dune: Part Three” as Stilgar, and has wrapped production on Amazon MGM Studios’ “Hello & Paris” with Kate Hudson. In “The Beloved,” which premiered at Cannes, Bardem portrays Esteban Martinez, a film director with a violent past who reconnects with his struggling actress daughter to collaborate on a film, forcing them to confront their shared history.
The Rome Film Festival is scheduled to run from Oct. 13-25.
