Apple’s iOS 27, launching later this month, will introduce a feature called iPhone Handoff that allows users to share a single phone number between two iPhones. The feature, demonstrated in Xcode 27’s Device Hub, pairs a primary iPhone with a secondary “companion” device.
iPhone Handoff is intended to provide flexibility for users who may not always want to carry their main device, such as a potentially expensive foldable iPhone Ultra expected to launch around the same time. This would allow them to temporarily switch to a smaller, more convenient device.
Currently, support for iPhone Handoff is limited to specific carriers. Code references indicate compatibility with T-Mobile US and Telekom.de, but broader carrier support remains unknown.
