Freya Allan and Kodi Smit-McPhee are set to star in Nick Hamm’s upcoming period thriller, ‘Black Palace,’ set in 1888 London during the Jack the Ripper murders. The film follows a young woman sent to Buckingham Palace to spy on Queen Victoria’s grandson, who has a habit of disappearing at night.
The movie also features Joe Anders, Raffey Cassidy, Iain Glen, Martin Clunes, and Juliet Stevenson. The story centers on a young woman’s task to monitor the prince and, in doing so, uncover secrets that could threaten the Crown and her own life. The film is written by Jon Croker.
New Regency is handling worldwide sales for ‘Black Palace’ and will begin pitching the film to distributors as the fall festival season begins. The film is currently in post-production. Producers include Marie-Christine Jaeger-Firmenich for SIMIA Productions, Piers Tempest for Tempo Productions, Mark Huffam, and Nick Hamm under Hamm4, with Hannah Shipley and Will Matthew co-producing. Jeremy Bolt and Croker are executive producers.
Director Nick Hamm stated, “The film is constantly shifting between question and answer, tone and perspective, and that demanded a similarly fluid approach to genre. One moment needing to thrill, the next to enchant; extreme fear had to sit alongside extreme passion. Much like the play within the story, the film itself becomes a kind of Jekyll & Hyde experience: romantic and terrifying, seductive and unsettling in equal measure.”
