Eight Buddhist monks were killed and at least fourteen others injured after a pickup truck crashed into a group of pilgrims in northeastern Thailand on Thursday. The driver of the vehicle was an 11-year-old boy.
According to police reports, the boy took his parents' pickup truck without permission before losing control and colliding with the monks who were walking as part of a pilgrimage. CBS News reported that police stated the incident occurred after the boy lost control of the vehicle.
The New York Post reported that the crash happened in northeastern Thailand, resulting in eight deaths. The Japan Times similarly noted that police confirmed the boy had taken the truck without permission before the collision.
