NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the trade, stating, “The Steelers are trading OT Broderick Jones to the Cowboys, per me and (Mike Garafolo).” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler later detailed the draft compensation: the Cowboys are sending a third- and sixth-round pick to Pittsburgh, while receiving a fourth-round pick.
Jones, a 2023 first-round pick for the Steelers, struggled with inconsistency during his time with the team. The Cowboys are hoping a change of scenery will revitalize his career. Dallas has been seeking depth and improvement at offensive tackle, as both Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele have faced challenges in recent seasons.
The Cowboys’ depth situation behind their starters was also considered shaky, with rookie Drew Shelton and Nate Thomas both struggling this offseason. According to the report, Jones is viewed as an upgrade over both Thomas and Shelton, providing much-needed support to the offensive line.
