Despite the end of the win streak, Borussia Dortmund has not lost an opening-day match since a 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in August 2014. The club has a history with Hamburger SV, having faced them three times on opening day, with two wins and one defeat. In 1976, newly promoted Borussia Dortmund defeated Hamburger SV 4-3 in a spectacular match. In 1984, Hamburger SV won 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund’s stadium. Most recently, in 2011/12, Borussia Dortmund, as reigning champions, defeated Hamburger SV 3-1 at home, with Kevin Großkreutz scoring twice and Mario Götze adding another goal. Dortmund will now face Hamburger SV for a fourth season opener, seeking to continue their home winning tradition.
