The Cincinnati Bengals are experiencing a positive problem as they approach final roster cuts: an abundance of players performing well enough to warrant consideration. After completing a perfect 3-0 preseason, including a 30-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night, the team has more viable options than available roster spots.
The defensive line has seen the most dramatic improvement, thanks to the addition of veteran talent like Dexter Lawrence and the development of younger players such as Kris Jenkins and McKinnley Jackson, along with the emergence of Landon Robinson. Isaiah Foskey and Antwaun Powell-Ryland combined for a sack on the Eagles’ opening possession, with Powell-Ryland credited with the sack. The Bengals’ defense held Philadelphia scoreless until late in the second half, and Foskey has consistently performed well throughout the preseason. This represents a significant change from last year, when concerns existed about pass-rush depth, the secondary, and the offensive line.
Dohnte Meyers has also significantly improved his position during the preseason. Entering training camp as a relatively unknown player after playing in the CFL, Meyers has demonstrated enough skill that the Bengals would risk losing him to another team if they attempted to place him on the practice squad. He caught three passes for 51 yards during Friday night’s game.
