Google’s latest Android Drop introduces new features for locating items, enhanced accessibility tools, and improvements to messaging. The update, available on devices running Android 9 Pie or higher, expands the functionality of the Find Hub and integrates Gemini’s capabilities.
The September Android Drop includes updates to Gemini and introduces new features like the ability to log the location of items without tracker tags. Users on Android 16 or higher can tell Gemini where they placed an item, optionally including a photo, and the information will be saved in the Find Hub. This expands Find Hub’s utility beyond locating phones, earbuds, and tracker tags, allowing users to recall the location of misplaced objects.
Gemini Live is also receiving a new feature called Guided Vision, designed to improve accessibility. Guided Vision helps users locate objects within the camera frame or extract information from visual sources, such as reading text on a dimly lit menu. Gemini interprets the camera feed to identify objects and can even estimate the distance between a user’s hand and the target object. This feature will be accessible through system Accessibility shortcuts and the TalkBack menu, and is compatible with Android phones running Android 9 Pie and later.
