Slovakian native Adéla Jergová releases her debut full-length album, ‘Prima,’ following a summer performing at festivals like Lollapalooza and Reading. The album, a departure from the hard-edged sound of her debut EP ‘The Provocateur,’ blends tough beats with lighter pop hooks.
Being eliminated from the “Dream Academy” reality-TV series may have been beneficial for the 22-year-old artist, as ‘Prima’ demonstrates her potential beyond a group setting. The album was executive produced by Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs and Blake Slatkin, who has collaborated with artists including Sam Smith, Sienna Spiro, Charli xcx, and Lil Nas X, with contributions from Julia Michaels and Billy Walsh.
‘Prima’ showcases a variety of styles, drawing comparisons to artists like Ariana Grande, Charli xcx, Lady Gaga, and Kanye West. Tracks include elements such as sped-up R&B loops on “Nicole Kidman” and chopped-and-screwed hooks on the single “Ain’t in LA,” which is described as one of the year’s best. Adéla’s lyrical style is highlighted by lines like “Nobody wants dirty shoes/ nobody wants dad issues,” “Lately I’m lackin’/ A sense of reciprocity in your passion,” and “Playing Nirvana, ride you in your Honda/ I like how you look at me like I’m the next Madonna.”
