Theo James, starring as Eddie Horniman in ‘The Gentlemen,’ sees his character transform into a ruthless crime boss in the Netflix series’ second season. The season culminates in a devastating loss for Horniman and the revelation of a shocking betrayal within his own family.
The second season of Guy Ritchie’s action dramedy follows Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) as they expand their weed operations into Italy, bringing them into conflict with Italian Mafia boss Marco Moretti (Sergio Castellitto) and fixer Cico Maldini (Michele Morrone). Maldini’s death comes at the hands of Moretti’s tiger. Seeking independence, Eddie begins working directly with Moretti, even carrying out a hit on an accountant to demonstrate his loyalty.
Eddie marries Marco’s goddaughter, Countess Isabella “Bella” Soranza de Parme (Benedetta Porcaroli), an aristocrat familiar with the criminal underworld. Their marital bliss is tragically cut short when Bella is killed in a bomb explosion aboard a seaplane she was piloting during their honeymoon. Eddie, devastated by Bella’s death, begins a quest for vengeance, initially suspecting Bobby (Ray Winstone) or other rivals.
The finale reveals the true perpetrator: Eddie’s brother, Freddy (Daniel Ings). While in a religious rehab center, Freddy falls under the influence of Gospel John (Pearce Quigley), who exploits Freddy’s resentment over losing the Halstead inheritance to Eddie. Gospel John convinces Freddy to participate in an armed assault on the Halstead estate, with an attempt to kidnap Eddie and Freddy’s younger sister Charly’s (Jasmine Blackborow) newborn baby.
