Netflix’s live-action “Scooby-Doo: Origins” series has completed production and is slated for a global release in 2027. The series is a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.”
The show’s plot centers around Shaggy and Daphne becoming involved in a haunting mystery during their final summer at camp. They investigate a lonely Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Joining them are Velma, Freddy, and a real Great Dane playing Scooby-Doo – a first for the franchise. The logline states they “set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Filming took place in Atlanta, following previous Netflix productions like “Stranger Things” and “His & Hers” which also utilized the location. The cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser will portray Scooby-Doo’s owner. Other cast members are Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are showrunners and writers, also serving as executive producers. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions, in addition to André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Adrienne Erickson, who executive produce via Midnight Radio.
