Filmmaker Zach Cregger, following the success of *Barbarian* and *Weapons*, reveals a key adjustment made to his *Resident Evil* film after test screenings. He aimed to capture the gameplay experience of *Resident Evil 4* on the big screen, opting for an original story centered on a medical courier, played by Austin Abrams, delivering cargo to Raccoon City during the T-virus outbreak.
Cregger’s recent career turnaround, from struggling to finance *Barbarian* five years ago to receiving bidding wars for projects like *Resident Evil* and *The Flood*, is something he approaches with caution. “If there’s one thing that is the law of Hollywood, it’s that what goes up must come down,” he told *The Hollywood Reporter*. He followed *Barbarian* with *Weapons*, which grossed $270 million against a $38 million budget and featured an Oscar-winning performance by Amy Madigan as Aunt Gladys; a prequel about her character is currently in development.
While acknowledging criticism for taking artistic license with the *Resident Evil* IP, Cregger stated, “I cannot be worried about whether I am pleasing enough of every spectrum of fandom.
