Brit director Scott Vickers has assembled the cast for the upcoming Amsterdam-set gangland thriller “Nozem,” which begins filming next week.
The film, written by Buddy Boerkoel, will star Boerkoel himself alongside Daniel Fathers (“House of the Dragon”), Francesca van Neuren (“Coked”), and Ibrahim Naji (“Gedachten aan de regen”). “Nozem,” which translates to “Street Thug” in Dutch, is set within Amsterdam’s criminal underworld, described as a “hidden empire of drugs, power and old-school gang codes.”
The story centers on Robbie, who seeks revenge for his parents’ murder at the hands of Franz Müller, a notorious gangster, 25 years prior. Robbie infiltrates Müller’s gang, Die Brüder, with the intention of killing him, but discovers he is being groomed to settle a dangerous debt. Jamie Gene, Mario Wittmann, Bram Legerstee, Liam James Collins, Ivana Stamenkovits and William Sutton also have supporting roles.
“When Buddy Boerkoel came to me with ‘Nozem,’ I was hooked immediately. It reveals the reality of Amsterdam’s underworld beneath its postcard exterior,” said Vickers, who previously directed the horror feature “Matriarch” and episodes of BBC drama “River City.” He added, “Our protagonist embeds himself inside the city’s most feared gang, Die Brüder, to destroy it from within — and finds himself seduced by the very thing he came to burn down. It’s rare to find character and arc so well developed in the action genre, and we have a fight and stunt team among the best I’ve ever worked with. It’s a very ambitious, very exciting project.”
Jamie Gene, Eva Machek, Anna Vozdroganova, and Orhan Vehabovic are producing “Nozem,” with Boerkoel, van Neuren, and Henk Hoek serving as executive producers. Vickers’ short film “King of the Iron Will” is Oscar-qualified and a HollyShorts nominee, and he is also the founder of the Interact Screen Actors Academy.
