The 2017 Best Picture Oscar winner, *Moonlight*, will be re-released in theaters on October 2 with a new 4K remastered cut. Director and co-writer Barry Jenkins announced the re-release at a special screening during the Telluride Film Festival.
The film follows a young African-American man navigating identity and sexuality through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. It stars Mahershala Ali and was produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. The re-release will include an exclusive conversation featuring Jenkins, composer Nicholas Britell, and Ali.
*Moonlight* originally premiered in 2016 and won three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ali, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney. The 2017 Oscars ceremony was marked by a now-famous error where *La La Land* was mistakenly announced as the Best Picture winner due to a mix-up involving PwC accountants and incorrect envelopes. *La La Land* producer Jordan Horowitz corrected the mistake on stage, confirming *Moonlight* as the true winner.
The film grossed $27.8 million domestically and nearly $67 million worldwide. Tickets for the re-release go on sale September 9, and a limited edition anniversary art print will also be available.
