A former production assistant on the Amazon MGM series “Criminal” has filed a lawsuit alleging a hostile work environment involving sexual and racial harassment. Ijaaz Noohu claims showrunner Ed Brubaker subjected him to repeated misconduct on set.
Noohu, hired by Big Indie Pictures in February 2023, alleges Brubaker engaged in “repeated and pervasive” sexual harassment, including comments about running his hands through Noohu’s hair, jokes about rape, and rubbing Noohu’s back. The lawsuit also details claims of racial discrimination, stating Brubaker parroted “demeaning stereotypes” about curry and questioned Noohu’s mathematical abilities, as well as repeatedly asking if he supports the terrorist organization Hamas. Noohu, born in Sri Lanka and raised in Los Angeles, was allegedly banned from the set after challenging the alleged misconduct and ultimately received no credit on the series, slated for release before the end of 2026.
The suit further alleges that executive producer Phillip Barnett directed staff to avoid documenting complaints and dismissed reports of misconduct with phrases like, “Don’t say that in front of me,” and “La, la, I’m not hearing that.” A specific incident detailed in the lawsuit claims Brubaker pointed a functional firearm at Noohu’s face and pulled the trigger, witnessed by a senior producer. Noohu is seeking unspecified damages from Brubaker, Amazon MGM Studios, and Big Indie Pictures, citing religious discrimination, assault, battery, and other claims.
Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment. Representatives for Brubaker and Big Indie Pictures did not respond to requests for comment.
