WEST LIBERTY, W.VA. — Walsh University defeated West Liberty 30-27 in their season opener on August 27. A defensive stand in the final minute secured the victory for the Cavaliers.
Walsh built a 30-13 lead before West Liberty rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. West Liberty’s final drive stalled at the 50-yard line after four consecutive incomplete passes. Jake Gill led Walsh with two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown from Brendan Zurbrugg.
Brady Gooding contributed a 62-yard touchdown reception from Hayden Wickard. Wickard completed 12 of 18 passes for 228 yards, while Zurbrugg went 6-of-9 for 46 yards. Gooding finished with two receptions for 110 yards, and Gill rushed for 83 yards.
